So we use it as a sweetener in cooking and baking. One thing I’ve heard is that we don’t really see sugar as something sweet. We see it as a compound with three basic components, hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen.

Hydrogen is what gives it its sweetness, and so its presence can’t make it taste sweet.
