As a guy, I have a pretty bad habit of using my underarms as a mirror. I get a lot of stares and looks from women when my arms are up in the air, or when I’m wearing my favorite button up shirt. But even though I know it’s bad, it’s still something I have to admit to. I mean, no one is going to see my eyes, and not to mention how uncomfortable my arms are to wear.
It’s not just that the underarms get dark, it’s that their natural color, black, doesn’t match the rest of my body. So when I get a compliment from a woman or from a man, they can’t look at my arms. It’s like being a dark-skinned, black-skinned kid on the playground. It’s embarrassing.
In our own research, some of us have stated that we feel like our underarms get dark because we are less likely to feel like our underarms are black. If you’re white, you’re more likely to feel like your underarms are black. If you’re dark-skinned, dark-skinned, you’re more likely to feel like your underarms are black. So my theory is that the darker we are, the darker our underarms are.
This is where it gets complicated. I feel as though my arms are dark because my mom doesn’t say “I love you” to my sister. She says “I’m sorry” once a year and then goes to bed. How is this different than my mom saying “I love you” to me? And I’m sure I’ve said that to my sister more times than I can count.
I have two theories as to why dark-skinned guys and girls are more likely to feel like their underarms are dark. First, I feel as if dark-skinned people are more likely to feel as though they have a secret. They may know it, but they dont want to tell it to their parents. They may feel that something is wrong with their inner self because they dont want to tell anyone.
Well, it’s true. We all feel like our inner selves are hidden from the world. But because it takes a lot of effort to feel comfortable with our bodies, we may be reluctant to share them with others. And that tendency to feel as though we have a secret is probably due to fear. A lot of people fear the idea that no one will be able to tell whether you are a girl or a boy and that you may be a secret.
This is a problem that many people have with their underarms, so a lot of women have their underarms dyed black so that no one will know that they are actually women. Though some people swear by the effect, the majority of women find it too much of a hassle and prefer to keep their underarms white. I actually prefer the idea of black underarms, but I can see how others might disagree.
I think the main reason black underarms are preferable to a lighter shade is because it is easier on the underarms of the people who wear them. For example, if you are a teenage girl who likes to wear a black outfit, you will have your underarms getting darker with time. If, however, you are a young woman who is still figuring out what you like and who just got out a few weeks ago, your underarms might suddenly be lighter.
I’ve never seen one person’s underarms turn black like that. I think it is because when you get a black patterned underarm (like the ones worn by the young woman in the trailer), it is more difficult for bacteria to get through.
As stated before, a black pattern might be more difficult for bacteria to penetrate. But it also might be easier for bacteria to get through (if you’re a girl with dark colored underarms, I’d imagine you might be more susceptible).
